Helping Hands Food Pantry is entering a new chapter as it merges with CHOP Out Hunger, officially becoming a CHOP Choice Pantry. This transition strengthens a family-led mission to fight hunger while preserving the caring, personal touch the community has come to depend on.

With longtime Executive Director Peg Huyck preparing for retirement, leadership will pass to her daughter, Dani Ruhf, Founder and CEO of CHOP Out Hunger. Day-to-day operations will be managed by Dani’s daughter, Bailey Ruhf, marking three generations united in service to the community.

“This is truly a family mission,” said Dani Ruhf. “Peg has created a pantry that has nourished generations of families. With Bailey overseeing daily operations, we’re proud to continue that legacy. For families and volunteers, the pantry will feel the same, but now it has even more resources and support to ensure no family goes hungry. Mom will continue to be here in her new role, ‘Chief Hugger.’”

As a CHOP Choice Pantry, Helping Hands now offers a true choice model, where families can select the food items that best fit their household needs. This approach provides dignity, flexibility, and ensures children and families receive what they need most. In addition, the pantry continues to support the Wyalusing School District Backpack Program, providing meals for children to take home on weekends.

For decades, Helping Hands has been a trusted community resource. By joining the CHOP Out Hunger network, the pantry now benefits from sustainable support, stronger partnerships, and expanded resources to better serve the Wyalusing community.
