First Lady Lori Shapiro & Rep. Bridget Kosierowski Visit CHOP Out Hunger

On August 3, 2026, Pennsylvania First Lady Lori Shapiro and State Representative Bridget Kosierowski visited CHOP Out Hunger's Scranton Branch.

During the visit, the pair toured the facility and got hands-on, joining staff and volunteers to pack backpack bags for CHOP's backpack program. The program sends kids home each Friday with a bag filled with breakfasts, dinners, fruit, and healthy snacks to help cover meals they'd otherwise miss when school food isn't available.

CHOP Out Hunger has grown into one of the region's leading anti-hunger organizations. Through the Backpack Program, In-School Pantries, and Pop-Up Pantries, CHOP now serves more than 50,000 students weekly across sixteen Pennsylvania counties.

Visits like this one help shine a light on the scale of food insecurity facing Pennsylvania families, and on the community organizations working every day to close that gap. We're glad to do our part and continue to work towards creating an entire generation that doesn't know hunger.
